John Prine and Chip Taylor at the Warner Theatre

Ushering at the Warner theatre was finally really worth it last night! Serge and I ushered for John Prine at the Warner theatre. It was an inspring show - soulful folk music at its best. The musical storytelling captivated the entire audience. Chip Taylor did an excellent job getting the audience warmed up. The audience didn't seem to know who he was at first. He had people humming along to "Angel of the Morning" (made famous by Merilee Rush) and then started to tell a songwriting/recording story about how he wrote a song and he wasn't sure about recording it and then at the last minute he did. He followed the story up with the song he was talkign about. The crowd went wild! It was "Wild Thing." Who knew the opening act was actually the guy who wrote BOTH "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning"? Nobody in the audience seemed to know. That was the moment that really MADE my Warner theatre ushering season. It was so neat to hear this song, that I have heard on the radio so many times, LIVE by the original artist. Wild Thing was made famous by the Troggs. I didn't get the full story myself until I got home and did an Internet search. This guy is Jon Voight's brother and Angelina Jolie's uncle. Who would've guessed?
